Jesús Ernesto de la Maza, delegate of Mexican Red Cross in San Luis Potosíreported that the institution carries out monthly between 450 and 500 pre-hospital ambulance servicesin addition to provide between 2,000 and 2,500 medical services. These figures translate into more than 12,000 services so far this yearreflecting the high demand for accessible medical services.

De la Maza pointed out that The Red Cross offers support to people who cannot pay for medical servicesthanks to a social services evaluation area that allows providing free care when necessary.

On the other hand, he highlighted that In the Huasteca region, nearly 30 cases of heat stroke have been treated due to extreme weather conditions. Although the Red Cross carries out transportation to specialized medical agencies, De la Maza highlighted the lack of adequate professional equipment to deal with these cases directly.

Faced with this panorama and despite the increase in services, the annual collection of the Red Cross in San Luis Potosí, which ended on May 31, did not meet expectations.

De la Maza expressed his concern about the lack of donation culture in the community. Although the institution has the support of the Regular State Educational System (SEER) and the Secretary of Education of the State Government (SEGE) to promote donations, only approximately 50% has been raised of the more than 7 million pesos expected.

“But beyond these figures that reflect the reduced support given to the Mexican Red Cross in San Luis Potosí, we We will continue working hard to meet the needs of the populationfacing both the high demand for services and financial challenges.”
