According to reports presented by the Military Forces, this new attack against the population was organized by the ‘Jaime Martínez’ front of the FARC dissidents.
“At this time evidence is being collected and interviews are being conducted to clarify the details of the incident. We want to assure the community of Robles and all Jamundean citizens that all necessary measures are being taken to guarantee their safety. The protection of our people is and will continue to be our top priority,” said the mayor of Jamundí, in a statement published by the media “El País” of Cali.
Later, specifically at 5:30 pm, the activation of explosive devices was recorded. This attack occurred at a police station located in the city of Popayán. According to authorities, the devices were launched from three drones and through the handmade ramps of a dump truck. Apparently, a police officer was injured by the blast wave, although his health condition is stable.
General José Antonio Urquijo Sandoval, commander of Police Region No. 4, assured that at the moment there have been no people captured for this incident, but that the Military Forces are deployed, with the intention of repelling other possible attacks. In addition, he reported that a security council was convened, in which regional and local authorities will surely participate.
“(…) one might think where these types of attacks come from. The national government did not believe in the desire for peace of these organizations, evidently breaking the ceasefire. We will have to carry out much more forceful actions in military and police matters, because when war is declared against a State and a society, the Government has the duty to confront that war,” said Luis Fernando Velasco, Minister of the Interior.
The complaints
Media outlets have repeatedly reported that illegal armed groups are using modern equipment to attack specific areas. Due to their lack of precision, these devices explode in unestablished places, affecting, above all, the civilian population.
“Unconventional weapons are being used, drones, which due to their lack of accuracy are falling near schools and homes, putting our civilian population at risk. From the Government of the department of Cauca we reject the use of this type of weapons, especially when they endanger our children and the civilian population,” said Miller Hurtado, Secretary of the Government of Cauca.
In view of the critical public order situation in the southwest of the country, specifically in Valle del Cauca, the leader of that region and former Minister of Education Francisco Lloreda recently told EL NUEVO SIGLO that the situation is critical.
“Not only in Valle, but also in Cauca, which are departments with communicating vessels. Although the challenges regarding public order and security in this area of the country are not new, they have worsened in the last year,” he stated.
He also said that political will is necessary to solve the problem of violence in that region. “Judging by the process, it seems that the Executive has no interest in the public order and security situation in this region of the country improving.”
