Córdoba is structuring a project to deploy an underwater Internet cable node at a strategic point on the department’s coast. This telecommunications infrastructure allows high-speed data transmission between continents and countries through wired routes installed on the ocean floor.
The governor of Córdoba, Erasmo Zuleta, made the formal request to the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Mauricio Lizcano, of support in the project to deploy this infrastructure to enhance the connectivity of the department.
Currently, there are several cable arrival points submarines on the American continent, including the United States, Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
In Colombia, there are four submarine cables that connect the country with the rest of the world: the AMX-1, which reaches the Caribbean coast in Tolú (Sucre); the PCCS, which arrives at Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca) in the Pacific; the SAm-1, with arrival points in Barranquilla and Cartagena; and the Maya-1, which also has an arrival point in Barranquilla.
Governor Zuleta’s request seeks to add Córdoba as a new connection point in the Colombian Caribbean, taking advantage of its strategic location and the development opportunities that arise in the region, the viewing point is located in the municipality of Los Córdobas.
“With the minister we have had a bet and that is to achieve that in these years that the national government is missing, with the help of the minister, Córdoba can have the submarine cable on the coasts of the department,” stated the governor.
This initiative is part of a broader development plan for Córdoba, which includes the construction of a base for the National Navy to protect the coasts and the use of the ports under construction in the municipality of Turbo, Antioquia.
“We want to be a strategic ally of Antioquia and not become Antioquia’s backyard,” said Zuleta, emphasizing the need to work in an articulated manner to Take advantage of these opportunities and connect Córdoba with the Caribbean and the world.
