The National Police captured three members of a family, aged between 29 and 60, in the Restrepo neighborhood, in flagrante delicto, for alleged participation in counterfeit currency trafficking.

The surveillance patrol of the CAI Station quadrant responded to a report from the radio center about a call to the 123 emergency line, made by a citizen who had been a victim of theft. The complainant reported that three people gave him counterfeit $100,000 bills in a store on the ninth stage of the Jordan. The 29-year-old man made the first purchase with a counterfeit bill and, upon seeing the ease of deception, urged his mother-in-law to make another purchase with another counterfeit bill at the same establishment.

When the victim realized that the bills were false, he followed the suspects and alerted the National Police, reporting that he was following them from the Calarcá neighborhood to the Restrepo neighborhood. During the tour, the suspects entered and exited several establishments to pass more counterfeit bills.

Thanks to the descriptions provided by the victim, the Police activated the padlock plan and managed to intercept them in a hardware store in the Restrepo neighborhood, while they were trying to make another purchase with a counterfeit bill. The administrator of the establishment detected the counterfeit and tore up the bill. Two women who accompanied the suspect were also identified as accomplices to the theft.

One of the women, upon noticing the police presence, tried to hide counterfeit bills under a door. During the search, $100,000 bills were found with the same serial number reported by the victim. (AD74571219). Products that they had allegedly purchased in other establishments using counterfeit bills to obtain legal money were also found.

Given the evidence, the three people were captured for the crime of trafficking in counterfeit currency and placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office.

The Police remind citizens of the importance of reporting these events to ensure a quick reaction from the authorities and improve security.
