The Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA) presented the May sales report with 34,614 units, which represents a decrease of 13.8% year-on-year, since in May 2023 40,165 units had been registered. But there is an improvement compared to last month, around 5.1%, with an April of 32,943 vehicles.
In this way, in the five accumulated months of the year 152,339 units were patented, this is 22.1% less than in the same period of 2023, in which 195,673 vehicles had been registered. And in this context The Toyota Hilux pick up returns to first place.
Patenting by brands and models
Both in Mendoza and nationally, the players who dominate the standings are the same and a lot has to do with the financing offered by the terminals.
In that sense, Toyota retained the top of the Top with May sales. With an important difference, Volkswagen appears in second place. Fiat, Peugeot and Renault complete the top five brands. The latter regained the place it had lost in April and moved Ford to sixth place.
While, in terms of the most sought-after models, as in April, May sales bring a surprise and that is that the Fiat Cronos was displaced from first place. The sedan from Cordoba came fourth and in its place appears the eternal historical pick-up in sales, the Toyota Hilux.
Already in second place is the Peugeot 208, the nationally produced hatch, which a month before was the leader. The Toyota Yaris – with a great price-to-product ratio – took third position, while the Ford Ranger completed the Top 5.

An analysis of the context and sales
In an analysis of the context, Sebastián Beato, president of ACARA, points out that with May sales it is observed that the figures continue to improve, thanks to the financing that the brands prepared for their most important vehicles. The official also highlights that bank rates were above 100% and are now a third.
“This key tool for the sector will continue to expand also for motorcycles and machinery and is what will allow us a massive improvement. There are some tax reduction proposals that will also have a strong influence so that the client appears firmly,” he commented.
And he considered: “From the value chain we also have a lot to do and that is what we are working on, the automotive companies, with discounts and promotions to encourage sales, and the dealers with bonuses and added value so that customers return, which makes us “I anticipate that the second semester will be even better than the first.”
