The Government of Córdoba has undertaken the search for new sources of financing for development projects in the face of an eventual decrease in royalty income.derived from the slowdown in mining activity in the country. This situation has led the departmental government to propose alternatives such as tourism and agribusiness to diversify the regional economy.
Governor Erasmo Zuleta Bechara noted that “We have to ensure that the department of Córdoba generates income other than the transfers made by the national government or royalties, because they are finite resources.”
The president emphasized the need to anticipate a scenario in which royalties, which represent close to 20% of the department’s income, are affected by the national energy transition policy and the lower demand for coal and other minerals.s.
The concern arises in a context in which the national government has expressed its intention to gradually discourage mining activity and promote a more sustainable, low-carbon economy.
Although this transition is projected in the medium and long term, departments such as Córdoba, whose finances largely depend on royalties, have begun to design strategies to adapt to this new scenario.
Among the alternatives proposed to diversify the regional economy are the strengthening of tourism, especially in the coastal area, and the development of agroindustry.
“Córdoba has great potential for sun and beach tourism, but we need to invest in infrastructure and services to make the most of this resource,” said Zuleta. Likewise, it seeks to promote agroindustrial projects that generate added value to the agricultural production of the department.
In addition to these sectoral bets, the Government of Córdoba works to strengthen fiscal management and attract private investment. Measures have been implemented to improve local tax collection, optimize public spending and generate a more favorable environment for business. Likewise, efforts have been intensified before the national government and international cooperation to access additional resources.
