The Minister of Women and Gender Equality, Antonia Orellana, announced this Saturday that the Government will implement an intervention in the Yungay neighborhood, in the commune of Santiago, with the aim of strengthening public security, following the report of rape of a schoolgirl. in the historic sector where the residence of President Gabriel Boric is located.
During a press conference, the Secretary of State declared: “We are going to work together with the Metropolitan Delegation and also the municipality of Santiago in a local intervention, similar to the one we did in the Barrio República at the beginning of 2022, which not only allowed increase the security of the students, but also made it possible to detect and disrupt six gangs that operated in the area. “We are going to replicate that in the Yungay neighborhood.”
Along these lines, the minister explained that “we have spoken with the institutions of the Ministry of the Interior and, last night, an investigation was carried out to review the procedures applied during the peaceful protest, with pot-bangers, carried out by neighbors concerned about the well-being of the girls when walking through the neighborhood.”
The aforementioned demonstration, made up of approximately 30 people, mostly adult and young women, culminated with four people detained by Carabineros near the President’s house.
Following the above, Orellana added that “we are going to continue working with them, with the municipality and with all State organizations to improve security in the neighborhood, so that no girl in this commune, or any other, is afraid to attend.” to school”.
