Mathematics improves its numbers; History shows considerable drop

This year, 259 Avilanian pre-university students passed the entrance exams to Higher Education, a figure that represents 55.46 percent of the young people examined and keeps the province with results very similar to those of the previous year.

Although overall Ciego de Ávila shows numbers similar to 2023, and even continues in sixth place nationally, a brief look at the results of each subject, compared to those of the previous year, offers other readings of the phenomenon.

While Spanish-Literature obtained a 97.42 percent pass rate (almost the same as in 2023), and Mathematics rose approximately 10 percentage points to reach 69.38 percent success, the History entrance test brought the worst notes, when only 65.01 percent of the boys managed to pass it.

Precisely, in History the greatest decrease in results was experienced, falling by 14.86 percentage points compared to last year, a fact that, in a certain way, may be warning about deficiencies in the teaching of national history and in the patriotic training of our adolescents.

Majagua was the municipality with the highest percentage of passes in the three tests (87.88), followed by Venezuela (76.92), Florencia (71.43) and Ciro Redondo (68.00).

In dialogue with Invasor, Vivian Rodríguez González, head of the Pre-University Department in the General Directorate of Education in the province, pointed out that the strategy for attention to the admission process to Higher Education is already being redesigned, with the aim of raising results in upcoming exams, ensure compliance with the general curriculum and strengthen the preparation of teachers, students and their families.

“We are convinced that success in this work is related to discipline, personal example, will and the correct selection of the workforce, and next year we will fight for better results,” he added.

As explained above, the fact of failing the entrance tests, or not taking them, no longer prevents you from opting for a university degree. After granting the approved students, those young people who did not pass the exams, and also those who did not take them, will be able to obtain a place in Cuban universities.
