During the visit of the mission Joan of Arc 2024 (Jeanne d´Árc) to the port of Cartagena de Indias, France —through the company MBDA— has renewed the offer of the air defense system Mistral-3.

The offer is given in the interest of the Colombian Navy (ARC) to be able to materialize its mobile anti-aircraft system Dante-MPCVas a mobile means for short-range defense on a vehicle AM General M1152A2 and of which there is already a technology demonstrator prototype.

Increased capabilities

MBDA has offered the latest version with an increase in its range ceiling of up to 6.5 to 7 kilometers, which incorporates fifth generation technology, allows greater maneuverability and a greater ability to distinguish potential targets. It presents an evolution in its countermeasures, and improves its insensitivity thanks to the fact that it takes optical and infrared images of the target during flight, fixing the heat source until the moment of impact.

This missile (fire-forget mode) introduces three servomotors, plane focal detectors and an improvement in the system’s logistical life cycle. It also has the training system (ATPS), which allows easy training of its crews in aiming and shooting sequences, which according to MBDA has given it a success rate of 95%.

He Mistral-3 It has a weight of 13.5 kilograms, a warhead of greater lethality with speeds of up to 930 meters per second, increasing its detection capacity at low and very low altitudes, as well as targets with low thermal signature, which makes it a effective means against UAVs and drones.
