The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports recalled that this year the stands for local artisans at the National and International Poncho Festival will be free, with the aim of stimulating the participation, exhibition and sale of the products of the creators of the province to the large crowd of tourists who arrive in the province to participate in the most important winter festival, which this year will take place from July 12 to 21 at the Catamarca Fairgrounds.
Gonzalo Cancino, director of Crafts and Carpet Factory, in dialogue with the press, pointed out that “it is a decision that has been made to benefit the sector, so that they can show off at the party and dedicate all their resources to producing, to buying materials cousins, to be ready for our party, which lasts 10 days, which is super intense and where luckily they do very well with sales.”
He also highlighted that, although the craft fair also includes the presence of national artisans, the main focus is on local crafts and assured that “the commercial part was growing, the industrial part that also has its spaces here at the fair, but “The main focus is on the artisans and their production.”
In relation to national artisans, Cancino reported that they must pay a fee to participate in the fair, thus following the common practice in other provinces, “it is common for our artisans, when they go to another province, to pay a fee. Ours was set according to an average of the fairs we have visited.”
Likewise, it was reported that the Ministry is in contact with each of them to coordinate the corresponding payment.
Presentation
On Friday, June 14, the official presentation of the Poncho Festival will take place at the Catamarca Theater Cinema. During the event, the names of the national artists who will participate in the festival nights on the different stages will be revealed.
