The Chilean Navy presents the National Continuous Naval Construction Plan to the Peruvian Navy

The head of General Staff of the Chilean Navyvice admiral Jose Luis Fernandez; and the chief of the General Staff of the Peruvian Navyvice admiral Caesar Colunge; They presided from June 4 to 6 XIII Meeting of General Staffs in Valparaíso, instance in which the host institution presented its National Continuous Naval Construction Plan (PNCCN).

According to the Chilean Navy, in the XIII Meeting of General Staff Both delegations addressed topics of mutual interest such as issues related to anti-pollution exercises, global navigation systems and professional exchanges, among others.

In the work meetings the director of Planning of the General Staff of the Chilean Navy, Commodore Agustín Pájaroand the ship captain Enzo Tesserwho addressed the Continuous National Naval Construction Plan carried out by that institution, an opportunity in which an exchange of experiences was carried out on topics of interest to both navies.

The initiative is key since it will allow naval and maritime fleet units to be built in the country instead of acquiring used ones. The plan seeks to promote shipbuilding over a 50-year horizon in accordance with national interests through planned development and logistics optimization, contributing to the generation of jobs, research, innovation and new companies, in addition to leaving a significant part of investment in Chile.

The plan recently received the endorsement of the president Gabriel Boric who requested June 1 from the ministries of Tax authorities, Defending and the Chilean Navy to deliver in three months a National Shipbuilding Policy for the coming years with Asmar as a leader in an articulation of the capacity of public and private shipyards

New cooperation opportunities

The XIII Meeting of General Staff It included a series of discussion sessions and technical visits, with the aim of internalizing the current reality of the Chilean Navy and the Peruvian Navy.

At the end of the meeting, Vice Admiral Colunge indicated: “First I want to thank the Chilean Navy for such a brilliant welcome, for showing us the roles it plays and the tasks it has been carrying out, as well as the new challenges. I also want to thank you for the professional visits we have had over these three days. We are satisfied with the agreements we have just signed, we believe that our cooperation and our mutual trust are increasing considerably.”

“We have signed operational, training, and technical agreements that will strengthen our relationship, both in terms of professional exchanges, as well as in operational exercises that we are going to do, participating in Unites, Siforex and Neptune“This last is a very important operation, which has as its main objective the fight against maritime pollution,” highlighted the Peruvian naval authority.

For Vice Admiral Fernández, the meeting was fruitful. “We are very satisfied with this bilateral meeting, which has allowed us to learn more about the Peruvian Navy, we have had some presentations of the challenges that each of the Navies is facing, our continuous naval construction plans, and different challenges common,” he highlighted.

“We have managed to review the bilateral agreements, make some modifications and incorporate new activities, in the different operational, technical, logistical, training and maritime areas, without a doubt this increase in the mutual knowledge of both institutions and mutual trust will help us allow us to face in a better, more coordinated way and with greater synergy the challenges that the great Pacific Ocean imposes on us,” he stated.
