References from the Peronismo Solidario organization warned that “every week a huge number of people join” the popular pot which they carry out every Sunday in the Caballito neighborhood and which even receive people who “are not homeless, but do not make ends meet.”
The initiative began a year ago and was held once a month for 30 or 40 people. However, in recent months the economic crisis forced them to increase not only the frequency but the quantity of food: currently they prepare about 200 portions that are distributed every Sunday from 12:30 on the corner of Acoyte and Rivadavia.
“Every week a huge number of people join,” said one of the representatives, Florencia Lorenzo, in dialogue with the chronicler Paula Avellaneda for Argentina Live by C5N. “This is the heart of Caballito and if this doesn’t show the hunger that people are going through, I don’t know what can show it,” he added.
He highlighted that, although “the majority” of the people who come are men who are homeless, “we also have a group of retirees, people who have a house but cannot afford to pay for medicines, food and money with retirement. everything they have to consume in the month”.
“Every day we are receiving more people who, although they are not homeless, do not arrive. The President said that if people did not make ends meet they would be dead in the streets. It is not dead on the street because there are a lot of groups that we help to have that plate on the table that they cannot cover,” he said.
“There is a picnic area that on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays receives most of these same people to give them a snack and something that brings them a little closer to dinner. Another group goes out on Wednesdays to take a tour and we bring them divers or blankets. Today in Today we are all on the same side, which is collaborating with those who have less, because those who should see it are not seeing it,” he added in reference to Javier Milei’s famous phrase.
