The roads of La Guajira have been the scene of sad news for a family from Ariguaní, Magdalena, after the death of a young man in a traffic accident in Barrancas.
The victim, identified as Manuel de Jesús Villegas Sánchez, 23, was an employee of the company Vigilancia Guajira, which provides security services at the Cerrejón coal complex.
The accident occurred around 2:00 am on the Papayal curve, near the Eloy Segundo Hernández Educational Institution. Villegas Sánchez, who was traveling on his motorcycle heading home to Papayal after meeting friends in Barrancas, he apparently suffered a micro-sleep.
This caused him to lose control of his vehicle, crashing into a guardrail on the side of the road, causing serious injuries.
Despite being quickly transferred to the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Hospital in Barrancas and, due to the severity of his injuries, being referred to the San Rafael Hospital in San Juan del Cesar, Manuel de Jesús Villegas Sánchez died hours later as a result of the injuries suffered in the accident.
