Cybercrimes, car thefts and crimes against sexual freedom drive the rise in crime in Córdoba

Crime in Córdoba has increased during the first trimester from 2024 a 7.6 percentwith 8,072 criminal offenses registered, according to the latest balance published by the Ministry of the Interior.

Thus, between January and March of this year, 77 thefts of passenger cars (compared to 50 in the same period of the previous year); 59 crimes against sexual freedom; and 264 assaults on buildings. Serious and less serious crimes of injuries and riots also registered an increase (+7.5%), with 80 violations.

On the other hand, they lowered homicides fraudulent and attempted murders (there were none, while in the first quarter of 2023 they reached 7); robberies with violence and intimidation fell by 7.8% (from 103 to 95); and drug trafficking decreased by 2.8%, with 35 violations recorded.

In the area of cybercrimewere counted 2,196 crimes (28.9% more), with computer scams leading the way (1,950, 32.5% more). It consists of carrying out a deceptive activity, producing a transfer of assets to the detriment of the victim and thus obtaining a profit motive.

In the provincethe municipality where internet crimes increased the most (percentageally) between January and March has been Genil Bridge (+125.7%, going from 35 to 79); followed by Priego de Córdoba (+66.7%, with 50 cyber violations); and Goat (+54.8%, with 65). They fell in Montilla (-55.9%, from 68 to 30) and Lucena (-4.9%, with 116).
