The Lamarque cemetery was the scene of an unfortunate incident of vandalism and theft last weekend. Unknown people entered the property, desecrating a dozen tombs and taking bronze elements. Local authorities, together with special units dependent on Regional IV police, are working to clarify the incident.
The criminals entered the property located on 9 de Mayo and the rural road between the last hours of Friday and the first hours of Saturday, where they violated a dozen tombs, twelve niches and half a dozen pantheons. The vandals took various bronze objects, including pantheon doorknobs, letters, crosses and grave plaques.
The complaint was presented by the representative of the Security area of the municipality of Lamarque, who learned what happened in the early hours of Saturday afternoon. The region’s Criminalistics Office carried out the corresponding expert actions at the scene of the events.
They will try to detect people who buy bronze
For his part, the person responsible for Citizen Security of the municipality of Lamarque, Roberto Andreola said that this is not the first time they have encountered a situation of this type. He warned of the problem that people come to the city to buy these materials and that harms citizens. During this week they will meet with the Head of the Regional, Inspector Commissioner Juan Carlos Bautista to try to detect people who come to buy bronze in vans. “People can’t stand this vandalism in cemeteries anymore,” he told 7 En Punto.
A neighbor from Lamarque expressed his sadness at the situation in the cemetery. His mother passed away a couple of months ago and finding the broken place created in his memory is painful. «Sentimental damage is irreparable, it has no explanation»said.
