The evidence collected by the Special Investigation Unit (UEI) of the Prosecutor’s Office in the course of three investigations into the murder of leaders and human rights defenders led judges to convict members of illegal armed groups involved in these crimes in Caquetá and Córdoba. .

In the first trial, a judge sentenced 22 years and 5 months in prison for Juan Manuel Gómez Durango, alias El Zarco, as responsible for the homicide of the community leader Mary Cruz Petro Villalba, a crime perpetrated on April 25, 2023 in Ciénaga de Oro, (Córdoba).

According to the investigation, the victim was traveling on a motorcycle when he was approached by armed men who shot him and then took the vehicle.

In these facts ‘el Zarco’, a member of a substructure of the ‘Gulf clan’, was found responsible for the crimes of homicide, conspiracy to commit a crime and qualified theft. In addition to manufacturing, trafficking and carrying firearms or ammunition.

In second place, Eliécer Núñez Ángel, alias Raúl, member of the dissident group known as ‘Comandos de la Frontera’, accepted responsibility for five homicides recorded in Belén de los Andaquíes, La Montañita and El Paujil (Caquetá).

“Among the victims were three social leaders, a peace signer and a civilian, who lost their lives after being attacked with firearms,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.

It is recorded that among the acts he committed is the murder of the social leader and vice president of the Community Action Board of the Bolivian village of El Paujil (Caquetá), Antonio Charry Naranjo, occurred on September 15, 2022.

In addition, he also participated in the homicides ofs social leaders Alexander Pastrana Lozada and Marcos Antonio Morales López, which occurred in the villages of Puerto Gaitán and Thailand, in La Montañita, in March 2022.

“After signing a pre-agreement, alias Raúl was sentenced to 22 years and 2 months in prison for the crimes of homicide, forced displacement, conspiracy to commit a crime. All aggravated behaviors; in addition to manufacturing, trafficking and carrying firearms or ammunition,” said the accusing body.

Finally, there is a sentence of 18 years and 2 months in prison against Yoner Cortés Artunduaga, alias Guamo, member of the ‘Miller Perdomo’ structure of the FARC dissidents.

Cortés Artunduaga was found responsible for the murders of two social leaders in La Montañita (Caquetá).
