Antioquia is the general champion of the national final of the 2023 Intercollegiate Games

The Antioquia delegation took the title of general champion of the national final of the 2023 Intercollegiate Games. In the 15 days of competitions that took place in the cities of Valledupar and Bogotá, between May 26 and June 9, the “Paisa pride” athletes conquered the leadership of the general medal table, with a total of 163 medals: 80 gold medals, 54 silver and 29 bronze. Second place went to the Valley with 53 gold, 43 silver and 36 bronze. Third place was achieved by Bogotá with 40 gold, 34 silver and 27 bronze.

“Antioquia has just been crowned champion of the Intercollegiate Games. Many congratulations to the rectors, the coaches and the athletes. We are very happy! Antioquia accumulated a total of 163 medals. An outstanding milestone considering that the first places were achieved in the disciplines of: integrated chess, conventional athletics, badminton, indoor soccer, swimming, table tennis and volleyball, shining with a golden glow that illuminated each of the competitions.

“The recognition is for the Educational Institutions and the municipal sports entities who make the effort to develop and support the sports processes of the boys, girls and young people who represented the department of Antioquia in the national final of the Intercollegiate Games,” said the assistant manager. of Sports Promotion and Development of Indeportes Antioquia, Viviana Ángel Maya, who also emphasized: “it is important to highlight that almost 70% of the athletes who participated in this 2023 national final come from municipalities outside the Aburrá Valley, which in their The vast majority are municipalities belonging to a sixth category, municipalities that make a great effort to support the sporting process of these boys, girls and young people who represent us.”

On the last day of competitions, which took place at the Hotel Boutique Center in Bogotá, the Antioquian chess players demonstrated their supremacy by winning 3 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze, for a total of 5 medals. His leadership in the medal table of this discipline made the department of Antioquia stand out at the top of that podium. In second place was the department of Cundinamarca with 2 gold and 2 bronze. Third place was completed by Bolívar with 2 golds.

The last medalist to deliver a gold to the department of Antioquia was Ana Sofía Díaz from Colegio María Auxiliadora. She won first place on the podium in the integrated chess test, blitz (female junior) and with emotion she expressed: “This is a tournament I am playing for the first time and I am very happy to have those results. A tournament in all three modalities and it was all very exciting. All the games were very hard and you had to give your all. For me it is a pride to represent Antioquia and I feel great joy.”
