The brothers Yosi Esteban and Edwin Mauricio Montaña Borda were attacked by a hooded man in Algeciras. The first of the victims died, the second is recovering from the wound. The authorities attributed the incident to a “settling of scores.”
A young man died and another injured left a firearm attack perpetrated by a man with his face covered with a hood, in the municipality of Algeciras. The victims are two brothers.
The firearm attack occurred around 10:30 pm the previous Sunday at the liquor sales establishment ‘Fondo Blanco’, located on Carrera Quinta and Calle Segunda in the center of the Despensa Agrícola del Huila.
There, the brothers Yosi Esteban and Edwin Mauricio Montaña Borda were hanging out with friends, when the first of them was shot by a subject who shot him without saying a word.
Sources from Police Region Two stated that the attacker had his face covered. “According to witnesses, a hooded subject arrives at the establishment and shoots several times at a person who was chatting with his brother.”
Yosi Esteban is badly injured and is helped by friends, while his brother Edwin Mauricio goes out to chase the attacker. “When the subject runs out of the establishment, at that moment the brother of the injured person chases him and in the middle of the chase they shoot him in the chin,” said the source.
The two brothers, who live in the 50 Casas neighborhood, were taken to the local hospital where Yosi Esteban, 33 years old and dedicated to coffee harvesting, arrived dead. “The fatal victim had two gunshot wounds to the head and one more to the chest,” indicated the police source.
While Edwin Mauricio, 26 years old, who suffered a wound to the chin, was referred from the local healthcare center to the Neiva University Hospital.
The police source stated that the hitman attack, apparently, would be related to a settling of scores.
The preliminary investigations and witness statements were assumed by the Ninth Sectional Prosecutor’s Office of Neiva on URI duty.
