Last Saturday, June 8, 2024, in a rural area of ​​the municipality of Silvia, Cauca, Claudia Patricia Ussa, 21 years old, a first-year student at Ala Kusreik Ya Misak University, was violently attacked by a stranger.

The events occurred in the El Pueblito village of said municipality of the Guambia Indigenous Reservation, when Ussa was alone after having returned from the educational institution.

“The aggressor seriously attacked her dignity and physical, psychological, emotional, cultural and spiritual integrity, using knives and causing injuries to her face and body, in addition to brutally beating her with kicks and fists.”they noted in a statement from Ala Kusreik Ya Misak University.

For their part, the Departmental Assembly of Cauca, the Municipal Council of Silvia, among other organizations, have raised their voices of rejection for the brutal attack against the woman from the Misak community, who is fighting for her life in a medical center in Popayán, waiting to be transferred to a more complex clinic in the capital of Valle del Cauca.

Capture of the alleged perpetrator

According to the governor of the Guambia reservation, Mercedes Tunubalá, in dialogue with Unicauca Estéreo, she noted that the community managed to capture a subject who would be Claudia’s alleged attacker. «This is a man who had threatened the community member. “We are still advancing with the investigations of the case and we have requested the collaboration of the Prosecutor’s Office.”he pointed.

Likewise, they have expressed their concern and indignation at the recent “attempts at feminicide” in that community. Furthermore, they claim that in the last 20 years several Misak women have disappeared and recalled an unfortunate case from approximately 3 years ago when the lifeless body of a 14-year-old minor was found on the banks of the Piendamó River in the Ñipe village. Stopped with signs of violence and, according to, “no clarity or progress has been obtained in the investigations by the competent authorities.”

National mobilization

At 2:00 pm a march will be held through the main streets of the municipality of Silvia in rejection of the violent attack against Claudia Patricia. It will also be held in other cities in the country; in Bogotá, at the National University and in the so-called Misak square near the Universidad del Rosario; in Cali, at the Universidad del Valle, Meléndez headquarters; in Popayán, in Morro del Tulcán; and in Ibagué, at the University of Tolima.
