Young man who dreamed of being a firefighter dies after being shot in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- Luis Manuel Arguello, a 19-year-old San Jose University student who dreamed of becoming a firefighter was shot and killed last week in Dolores Park.

The sidewalks where the young man with Nicaraguan roots was shot several times have been transformed into improvised altars where family and friends continue to bring flowers, his favorite snacks, where they share their academic achievements and other memories.

“I let the process continue as it should be, I have no expectations and I hope that he is in a good place and that he is seeing us down here,” said Luis’s father, Irving Arguello.

The crime scene has become a space of memory and unfulfilled dreams.

Among the candles and flowers, you can see the proteins he took to train to become a firefighter, and his academic achievements.

“He always told me ‘I want to be a firefighter here in San Francisco, my city,'” recalled Natalia Arguello, Luis’s sister.

His classmates from San José University and his best friend also visited the place.

“He spoke to me that same day, he showed me his haircut, I miss him, it is impossible to find another friend like that, he was very special,” commented one of them.

The family is not aware of the motivations behind the murder and police have yet to report any arrests.

Luis’ family just wants people to know this young man who will no longer be able to be a firefighter or graduate from university, but who left his mark on them.
