The colonel Carlos Alberto Feria Buitrago He was promoted from lieutenant colonel to colonel, according to decree 0678 of 2024 of the Ministry of Defense, issued on May 30.
However, Colonel Feria did not attend the ceremony presided over by the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, at the General Santander School, apparently due to agenda issues. However, Sources confirmed to Caracol Radio that Feria will have a private ceremony at Nariño’s house.
Colonel Fair is a central figure in the investigationand was even charged by the Prosecutor’s Office for alleged irregularities in the polygraph applied to Marelbys Meza, former nanny of Laura Sarabia, advisor to President Gustavo Petro.
Feria is related to the follow-up carried out on Meza after the disappearance of a sum of money at Sarabia’s home. Let us remember that Meza was subjected to a polygraph test near the facilities of the Narino Palacea procedure that has been the subject of public scrutiny and controversy.
This promotion occurs amid media attention and investigations into the casewhich adds a significant nuance to the recognition of Feria within the military structure.
For his part, the Minister of Defense Iván Velásquez, spoke at the promotion ceremony that Feria did not attend, there he referred to honesty that should characterize all members of the public force: “We insist that the public force, particularly today the National Police, each man and woman of the institution, has to be in itself a reference of honesty (…) that all close people have that confidence that they are dealing with honest men and women who also reject any form of corruption“.
The Ministry of Defense has not issued additional comments on Feria’s promotion or the current status of the investigation related to Marelbys Meza.
