Harold Andrei Echeverry, known as ‘the monster of Cali’, ended the life of Michelle Dayana González, a 15-year-old girl, whose body was found after being dismembered on December 8, 2023. The crime generated a great commotion throughout Colombia, millions of citizens expressed their rejection and demanded justice for the promising student.
The victim disappeared during the night of December 7, the date on which the country was celebrating Velitas Day, a very special celebration, but one that forever marked a family with pain.. Hours after her disappearance, authorities and neighbors found Michelle’s body inside some paint cans that were in a workshop. The search immediately began for Echeverry, who worked at the site as a security guard.
Why did he kill her?
After several months of silence, Echeverry broke the silence and spoke about the night in which he ended the victim’s life. From La Tramacúa prison, located in Valledupar and where he is serving his sentence, the subject revealed details in the middle of an interview for the program The Trailof Snail.
According to his testimony, the real reason why he decided to end Michelle’s life was because of a discussion they had and in which, according to him, the young woman hit him, this triggered his reaction.
“An argument started and that’s it, she hit (hit) me with a star screwdriver and I defended myself (assaulting her) with a brass baton. I hit her on the head and she fell, she started convulsing, it was horrible. I think her brain came out, something white came out,” she said.
According to him, shortly after the fatal blow, the cell phone that the victim was carrying began to ring; he believes it was her parents looking for her because she had been out for a long time. This generated more panic and despair in him, so he made the decision to dismember the body to avoid being discovered, although he does not remember how he did it. Police investigations indicate that he used a polishing machine.
“I waited a while, but fear made me want to hide the act. She ends up in a suitcase, They said it had been with a polisher, but the truth is, I don’t have very good memories of that night. Yes she was dismembered, but I don’t remember her being with that,” he commented.
