Second level municipal hospitals offer free hemodialysis

In an effort to improve the quality of life of patients with kidney diseases, four of the five second-level municipal hospitals in Santa Cruz de la Sierra are offering completely free hemodialysis services. Traditionally, this service is provided in tertiary hospitals dependent on the Government, but the high demand in the population has led to its expansion to municipal hospitals.

Chronic kidney disease is a serious condition that affects thousands of people, limiting their ability to lead a normal, healthy life. Hemodialysis is an essential treatment that helps purify the blood and remove toxins when the kidneys cannot do so on their own.

Currently, more than 2,000 sessions are carried out per month in municipal hospitals, caring for an average of 250 patients. The hemodialysis rooms of the Bajío del Oriente, Pampa de la Isla, Plan 3000 and Villa 1ro de Mayo hospitals operate 24 and 12 hours a day to provide this vital service.

To access this benefit, people must have a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease and be insured by the Unified Health System (SUS). Patients should go to the departmental kidney health program of the SEDES (Departmental Health Service), where they will be referred to one of the second-level municipal units.

Thanks to these initiatives, patients can receive hemodialysis treatment for free in equipped facilities with highly specialized personnel, making a significant difference in their lives and well-being.
