“Decade of the 80s” in CCN Cinema – News from Paraná

The free cinema proposal for the month of June includes films that captivated the public in the ’80s.

The Breakfast Club (original title: The Breakfast Club) is a 1985 teen film, one of the most paradigmatic titles within this genre. Written and directed by John Hughes, its plot follows five young people, two girls and three boys, (each representing one of the different clichés of any prep or secondary school) who, as they spend a Saturday detention together in the downtown library, they discover that each of them is deeper than their respective stereotype. The film has become a classic, a cult film and has had a great influence on subsequent youth film productions. Likewise, some songs on the film’s soundtrack achieved notable success.

Critics consider it to be one of the films that best represents the high school environment of the time, as well as one of Hughes’ most memorable and recognizable works. The five main actors in the film are referred to by the media as members of a group called “The Brat Pack.”

In 2016, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” The film was digitally remastered and re-screened in 430 theaters to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2015. The cast includes Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estévez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy.

Entrance is free and open.
