Given the intense frontal system that experts have predicted for the central zone, which would bring heavy rainfall, the Valparaíso Fire Department Command has reinforced the operational capacity in its 16 companies and has also ordered that the USAR Valparaíso Firefighters team enter in Monitoring Phase.

These are provisions that will remain in place at least until Friday, June 14, and that consider keeping the personnel and machines of the different specialties operational, with special emphasis on operators and 4×4 rescue cars. “This is a measure whose main objective is to protect people. We know that Valparaíso has a complex topography and that due to various factors – given the expected climatic conditions – landslides or some collapses can be generated. This is why we have decided to reinforce our guards with personnel specialized in trauma and rescue and, in this way, guarantee that we will be able to go to the aid of whoever needs us,” explained the commander of the Valparaíso Fire Department, Vicente Maggiolo Oyazún.

However, the operational leader of the CBV maintained that “although we will be ready to come to the aid of the community in the event of any type of emergency, the call is for prevention: to take extreme care when using heating systems that could generate another type of incident, such as a fire, the same with respect to overheating of electrical networks.”

Likewise, Commander Maggiolo asked the community to “be attentive to the information provided by the corresponding authority during the frontal system and, in case of emergency, remember that the roads must remain as clear as possible for rapid action.” of the emergency teams, those of us who have already participated in a coordination meeting held in the municipality where we were present as Command.”

Regarding the activation of the Monitoring Phase of the USAR Valparaíso Firefighters Group, made up of volunteers specialized in urban search and rescue, “this means a state of surveillance, where basically it means being attentive to any
requirement,” explained Commander Maggiolo.
