The president of the Rioja Government, Gonzalo Capellán, announced this Thursday in the plenary session of the Parliament of La Rioja, one million euros of investment for the implementation of a plan that allows citizens to renew their vehicles.

During question time for the Presidency, Capellán responded to the spokesperson for the Popular Parliamentary Group, Cristina Maiso, who referred to the age of the vehicle fleet in La Rioja, considering that it “already exceeds fourteen years, one per above the national average.”

He has pointed out how, of the 226,000 vehicles registered by the General Directorate of Traffic in La Rioja, seven out of every ten, 157,000, are over ten years old and only twelve percent of the national park is plug-in, far from the European average. “These are reasons for concern not only for the sake of sustainable mobility but also for the safety of the people of La Rioja,” he said, believing that kilometers should also be taken into account, not just years.

Capellán has recognized how there is a need that has already affected the sector and, therefore, has announced a commitment to “help in the purchase of vehicles.” “I don’t like being in line and having the park get older,” he said.

He considered that many people cannot renew their vehicle due to an economic limitation and, in this regard, he announced that, this morning, a meeting was held between the automotive sector and the Government of La Rioja to “jointly give a boost” that will also take into account the “fight against decarbonization”.

It has announced one million euros for the subsidized purchase of vehicles “to boost the automotive sector and renew the vehicle fleet, improve its age, emissions and people’s safety.” A plan whose “technical details” are being analyzed at that meeting.
