On the morning of this Tuesday the 11th, Mayor Carlos Gatica, together with the Coyhaique Fire Department, visited and reviewed the progress on the land where the temporary barracks for the First Company of the commune will be built, whose facilities were completely destroyed, after the fire occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 23.

The barracks will be financed by the Regional Government of Aysén and will be built in the Campos de Hielo sector, donated by the Municipality of Coyhaique. The total area is 2 thousand square meters. In the future, the construction of the headquarters of the Fourth Fire Company of the commune is planned at the site.

Not only is it expected to be used as a barracks, but in the future it is also expected to build a training center for fire personnel in the region, with the aim of improving the condition and response time to accidents. This was indicated by the mayor of Coyhaique, Carlos Gatica. “This is progress in terms of safety and to improve the condition of our Firefighters, which is great news for Coyhaique,” ​​he said.

Modular

The director of the First Company of Coyhaique, Patricio Bahamonde, in conversation with Aysén Regional Newspaperwas grateful for the support of the municipality and explained the work of the Firefighters at the scene.

“We appreciate the mayor’s commitment after the incident to remove both this provisional barracks and the definitive one soon. We as the Fire Department made a significant investment to improve the land,” mentioned Bahamonde.

The director of the First Company also indicated what this provisional installation will be like. “They are modular container type. We must wait for the offers that arrive and that are within the budget of the regional government in terms of financing, the idea is to make a direct deal to be able to have this barracks soon,” he specified.

New barracks

Once the temporary barracks for the First Fire Company is ready, the construction of the new barracks for the fire department will be carried out on the same site as the damaged barracks, located at 365 General Parra Street, Coyhaique. The start of its construction is set for the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025.
