The recovery of municipal gardens in the Community Integration Centers advances

The Municipality, through the General Coordination of Community Relations and the Secretariat of Environment and Public Services, carries out the process of recovery of community gardens from the beginning of the management.

In municipal devices, the General Directorate of Community Agroecological Gardens carries out the work of land improvement with chipping, leaf litter, fertilizers and incorporation of new land so that seasonal seeds can grow and produce fruits.

Carolina Aimar, head of the area, explained that throughout the city there are 11 spaces dedicated to the production of orchards. Of the total, 4 are in community spaces and 7 in the Integration Centers of the Santa Cecilia, San Benito, Gauchito Gil, Limache, Constitución, Asunción and Bicentenario neighborhoods.

The community work of neighbors to condition and produce vegetables in an organic, healthy and sustainable way in these spaces is essential.

For this reason, in the CIC of Limache, the neighbors are dedicated to the production of fertilizer, production of seedlings, preparation of the substrate, and the transplanting of seedbeds and care of the crop.

Guillermina Soto, a resident of the southern area, said that she is dedicated to watering the plants and removing weeds. “I thought I didn’t have the hand to plant, that’s why I dedicated myself to watering. “At this time, we have peas, chard, lettuce, radishes and tomatoes,” she commented.

Oscar Sánchez, another neighbor, also said that the garden is a constant learning experience for him. “The garden we receive today is changed. There is a lot of effort, teamwork from a group of neighbors who lend their shoulders,” he concluded.
