These data are analyzed by the Regional Center and they highlight that they seek to reverse themselves with different campaigns that can attract donors to recover the values ​​of previous years.

“We are increasing external collections and we are linking with companies,” he commented to MDZ Online the director of the Regional Hemotherapy Center, Pedro Ruiz. In turn, he was the one who highlighted the drop in the number of blood donors. It is expected that this 14th, as a result of the special campaigns on the anniversary, they will be able to increase the number of volunteers for June.

This year’s global campaign has the theme “20 years of celebrating generosity: Thank you very much, blood donors!”, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary milestone and the profound impact that blood donation has on the lives of patients and donors . Due to the positive reactions to the first celebration on June 14, 2004, this date was made official in May 2005, at the 58th World Health Assembly.

The objective of raising awareness on this date is, mainly, to recognize and thank the millions of voluntary blood donors who have contributed to improving the health and well-being of millions of people around the world; raise awareness of the continuing need for regular blood donations to achieve universal access to safe blood transfusions; and encourage regular blood donation among youth and the general public,” they added.

Who can donate blood

Any healthy person, between 16 years and 65 years old, who weighs more than 50 kg and is in good health. The time that must elapse between each donation must be greater than 8 weeks, taking into account that women can do it up to 3 times a year and men up to 4.

“A blood donation can save four lives. The extracted blood is fractionated into its main components: red blood cells, plasma, platelets and cryoprecipitates, which will be transfused to each patient depending on their needs,” they clarified to take into account.
