The trial for the sexual abuse case began this Thursday in the Courts of the city of Santa Fe, which led to a jury and the dismissal as judge of Rodolfo Mingarini, who had released the accused with an argument that ridiculed the victim and your complaint. Now Leandro Spies reaches the bench in preventive detention investigated for “sexual abuse with carnal access”, committed in 2021.
The trial court is made up of the presidency of Judge Nicolás Falkenberg, accompanied by his judges Sergio Carraro and Lisandro Aguirre. Prosecutors Matías Broggi and Luciana Escobar Cello represent the Public Prosecutor’s Office. While Spies’ defense is in charge of lawyers Julián Saín and Marcos Barceló.
The hearings began to take place in room 1 of the Santa Fe courts with the opening statements of the parties. This stage will continue on Friday the 14th, Monday the 24th and Thursday the 27th of June. Closing arguments are expected to take place on Friday, June 28, and the court will announce its verdict on Tuesday, July 2.
The case began in May 2021, when prosecutor Celeste Minitti charged Spies with having forcibly entered a house in the north of the provincial capital and raped the woman who lived there.
After being charged, Spies was released by decision of the then criminal judge Mingarini, who in his ruling questioned how he could have been subduing the victim while putting on a condom. The topic went viral and gained national relevance. Mingarini was denounced and in September of that same year, the Court of Prosecution suspended him from his position. In May 2022, after the jury, he was dismissed for poor performance of his duties in nine cases, several of them of sexual abuse and with minor victims.
