Chilean Chamber Orchestra closes its tour of Tarapacá with a concert in Iquique
• The cast of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage made three presentations in communes of the Province of Tamarugal and will conclude their visit in the regional capital on Friday, June 14 at 9 p.m. at the San Antonio de Padua Church.
A tour of the region, which included three presentations in the Province of Tamarugal, was performed by the Chilean Chamber Orchestra (OCCh), the state cast of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, which will close its tour of Tarapacá with a concert in Iquique scheduled for Friday, June 14 at 9 p.m.
This concert will take place at the San Antonio de Padua (San Francisco) church, located at Almirante Latorre #1364 and the orchestra’s repertoire will begin with a world premiere, the work of the Argentine musician Tito Oliva, “Aires de Candombe”, based on rhythms typical of the genre characteristic of the Río de la Plata, with harmonies that weave a framework that refers to popular music.
Carlos Zamora’s composition titled “Vilama, the death of the river” will also be presented, to continue with “Ingoma” by South African Hendrik Hoffmeier, which is an orchestral work based on two traditional songs of the Xhosa people, natives of Africa. Finally, the closing of the presentations will be with the Symphony No. 3 by the French composer Louise Farrenc.
The Chilean Chamber Orchestra will be led by its principal conductor, the Swiss Emmanuel Siffert, who highlighted the presentations already made in the region and invited the Iquique community to attend this last concert. “It is my first time touring the interior towns of the region, I have been struck by the desert landscape, very different from anything I had previously known in this country. I hope that the Iquiqueño public will join us in the concert and can enjoy the repertoire that we prepared, just as happened in Tarapacá, Pozo Almonte and Matilla,” said Emmanuel Siffert.
“It has been a great tour, which allowed us to reach places where culture often does not reach, such as the town of Tarapacá, Pozo Almonte and this afternoon in Matilla. Tomorrow, Friday, June 21, it will be Iquique’s turn and we invite the community to join us to enjoy this concert, which is free and open to the public until the venue’s capacity is complete,” said the Seremi of Cultures, Arts and the Rose-Marie Acuña Heritage.
