The Santa Fe Council tested the electronic voting system

This Thursday at noon, the Municipal Council premises were the scene of a drill in which the new Integrated Information System of the Municipal Council -SIICoM- was tested. The councilors arranged on their benches with their electronic devices listened to the explanation of Hernán Nissio, the programmer who developed the system during the last year, after a brief introduction by President Adriana Molina.

“The idea of this meeting is to do a simulation of the electronic voting system, which still needs some adjustments, but which we believe is necessary to experiment so that, together, we can detect its strengths and weaknesses and implement it gradually, while we work on those issues that need to be modified”Molina explained.

Until the system is ready and can be coordinated with the Municipality’s records and documentation systems (SIEM and SIDOM), it will be implemented as follows:

-Initially the system will be used only as a button panel; then, once it is linked to the SIEM, the file can be related to the vote;

-It will begin to be used only for ordinance projects and for voting in general: in this first stage, voting in particular will continue to be done by show of hands and, in case someone wants to abstain, they must first request authorization from the Body and then choose the abstention option on the button panel;

-A point for the treatment of draft ordinances will be incorporated into the session outline, enabling electronic voting at that time;

-After the explanation, a vote was simulated, putting some draft Ordinances under consideration to test the various types of voting: positive, negative and abstention.

The Integrated Computer System of the Municipal Council -SIICoM- is a computer tool that allows you to automate processes, reduce the time of administrative tasks and handle large volumes of work efficiently. It incorporates friendly functionalities with the user experience and, later, will unify the interaction with other municipal management systems.

During this Thursday’s drill, the Council president said that the idea is to be able to begin implementing it as soon as possible. That is why this Thursday’s test was key to making the necessary adjustments before the start.
