Government issues yellow alert for forest fires in Santa Cruz

The Secretary of Sustainable Development and Environment, Ana Patricia Suárez, reported that The yellow alert was activated in the department of Santa Cruz due to the fires that are registered in the municipalities of Puerto Suárez and Puerto Quijarro.

Suárez explained that this alert was issued to comply with Law No. 602 on Risk Management and with the purpose of prevent risk in a timely manner of burning in the department.

So far the fires have affected approximately 21,640 hectares throughout the department, therefore, the Government’s forest firefighters remain deconcentrated on the border with Brazil, which is where the fire came from.

The fires are in Puerto Suárez, in the Otuquis area, and in Puerto Quijarro. Furthermore, there is alert in the municipalities of San Ramón and San Matías.

The departmental authority explained that with this yellow alert it is achieved operationalize resources in an initial and anticipatory manner and the personnel necessary to attend to the emergency according to procedures.
