Lanús put a stop to Racing’s winning streak

Racing squandered the possibility of remaining as the sole leader, at least temporarily, by falling without mitigation by 2 to 0 as a visitor against Lanús, in a match played tonight for the fifth round of the Professional League.

Ramiro Carrera, at 44 minutes into the first half, and Walter Bou, at 19 minutes into the second half, scored the goals of the match.

To round off a forgettable night, the Avellaneda team ended up with ten men due to the expulsion of Santiago Solari 35 minutes into the second period.

Despite the fall, Racing is still part of the group of leaders, although it could fall to second place if Huracán and Unión add some in their matches next Saturday against Independiente Rivadavia and San Lorenzo, respectively.

Lanús, for its part, was third, two points behind the leaders, for now Racing, Talleres de Córdoba, Gimnasia, Huracán, Unión and Instituto.

From the beginning the local team tried to impose conditions, and succeeded with a great display and the quality of Marcelino Moreno to manage the times. However, Racing, which had done very little in the initial stretch, had an approach with a weak header from Adrián Martínez, which went just wide.

But Lanús reacted and was about to unbalance with a shot from Dylan Aquino, well controlled by Cambeses. From there the local took the reins, and generated another chance with Bou, who finished with a left foot but Cambeses once again showed off.

At the end of the first half, and after a foul on Moreno, he took a free kick from the right and Carrera converted with a superb header. It was the right reward for the most ambitious team.

The dominance of Lanús, which won in all sectors, continued in the second half and almost increased the advantage with a center from Morgantini, which hit the horizontal.

Racing, overwhelmed, did not react and so the local team became more and more encouraged: Loiaza tried from outside the area but found Cambeses well stopped. Immediately, the Ecuadorian wasted another chance with a deflected header, after a great maneuver by Moreno.

Until Lanús insisted so much that he reached the second goal: Cambeses rebounded after a shot from outside and the ball was served to Bou to increase.

Only then did Racing try to push, with more force than football, they prowled the rival area with a shot from Roger Martínez, then with a free kick from Almendra, which grazed the crossbar, but the die was cast.

In the end, Solari’s expulsion was the image of Racing’s impotence, which had a great chance and was left empty-handed.
