During the second session of the ‘Interinstitutional Roundtable on Early Warning Assistance 023 of 2022’, held in Amalfi, Antioquia, the Ombudsman’s Office urged government authorities to effectively implement prevention and protection programs on recruitment, use, and sexual violence carried out by groups illegal armed groups and criminal organizations against children and adolescents (NNA).

Likewise, the Ombudsman’s Office is aware that between 2023 and so far in 2024, at least 16 minors have been recruited, with an estimated under-reporting of around 70 cases, because the families of the victims do not report it out of fear. to retaliation.

Faced with this situation, the Ombudsman urged the ten administrations in the northeast of the department to work in an articulated manner and form a prevention and protection against the risks of violation of human rights of children and adolescents.

Direct communication was also established with the local authorities, to whom the Regional Antioquia reminded them that their Development Plans must include a chapter on human rights and contingency plans.

The Ombudsman’s Office also offered a wide range of institutional offerings, generating commitments to continue training in human rights and international humanitarian law (IHL), while insisting to municipal administrations the importance of studying and applying what is contained in the Early Warning.

Officials from the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF), the Attorney General’s Office, and the mayors of the northeastern municipalities participated in the session. Antioquia, including Amalfi, and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
