In recent days, the Government confirmed that three new pairs of metrotram that were donated to the STM (Mendoza Transportation Society) from San Diego, United States. Since 2022 there are already 12 new pairs in the system and the sending of new pairs will be requested in September. The Government reported how the construction site extension of the service towards Luján de Cuyo and towards the airport The Plumerillo. There is progress in terms of physical work of more than 12%.
“There are three new pairs, out of a total of 39 pairs that the Government is going to acquire through the donation from San Diego. In turn, he maintained that in September the sending of other three pairs to put into operation and then, around 2025, the rest of the pairs that are missing to complete the donation number.
About the work of the extension of the metrotramwhich goes to the south and north of Mendoza, thus expanding the reach that the “metro” has so far, Vilchez assured: “The work is quite visible to those who pass through it in the part we are working on, we are moving soils in the southern area, from Carrodilla to Pueyrredón in Luján, that is all done, we work on both fronts simultaneously.”
Specifically, the president of the STM explained: “We are in an order greater than 12% of the progress of the physical work, comes under controlled terms, we have 48 months of construction and everything is progressing as planned. The work of extension “We are going to finish it in mid-2027 and it can be brought forward if no unforeseen events arise, but that depends on the macroeconomic situation.”
For its part, it was confirmed that it is agreeing with companies that have some type of “interference” in the area, that is, those that have wiring, wiring or pipes in the place where work is being done, a kind of “assurance” so that the tram does not complicate the provision of its services. Work is also being done in this regard with the municipalities.
“Now we are advancing stronger in the area of the Banking neighborhood of Godoy Cruz, because we have already opened all the arteries that we had to open in Luján, now we are doing it in Godoy Cruz. We are also attacking the northern area towards the airport, we have to coordinate with Trenes Argentinos because there is an intersection with the General San Martín railroad track that the trains come to be repaired,” added the official from the transportation area of Mendoza.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that money was advanced to “freeze prices” for materials such as sleepers, rails or power cables that have been suffering a strong increase as a result of the national macroeconomic situation for several months now.
