Chubut. Justice for Myrna! One week after NiUnaMenos, new femicide shakes Chubut

A new femicide shakes Chubut. This is Myrna, who worked at School 702 in Rawson, the provincial capital. The brutal event occurred a week after June 3, when thousands took to the streets across the country to demand #NiUnaMenos. Immediate justice for Myrna, enough of femicides. We make it clear once again: the State is responsible.

Last Tuesday, June 11, the news of the femicide of Myrna Maidana shook the province. She crosses us with the deepest pain and anger, since we come from Ni una Menos on June 3, where thousands denounced that they continue to kill us and the state is responsible.

Myrna was found dead in her home in Area 16 of Rawson, the capital of Chubut. She was 55 years old, she was a teacher and had spent her career at School 702. Justice for Myrna, all her solidarity with her family, friends and her educational community.

So that there is no Ni Una Menos, comprehensive assistance to those who need it is necessary. Shelters, housing, financial aid, legal advice, support from professionals with a gender perspective, and other measures to truly support and accompany women and their children, and TLGBIQNBA+ people. This does not exist in our country: neither at the national, provincial nor municipal levels were serious programs implemented with the necessary budget. That is why we always said that the State is responsible for this abandonment.

It is no coincidence that a few weeks ago the government of Javier Milei announced through the presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni with a statement in which the definitive elimination of the Undersecretariat for Protection against Gender Violence was resolved. A direct attack against public policies that seek to provide a response, even if it is elementary, to cases of violence and discrimination based on gender or sexuality.

Loaded with hate speech that led to the triple lesbicide in Barracas, where this type of attacks on women and diversities will deepen if we do not organize against this openly misogynistic government.
From the Observatory of Gender Violence ” Ahora Que Sí Nos Ven ” they released the National Registry of Femicides 9 years after the first call for Ni Una Menos, prepared from the analysis of graphic and digital media from all over the country and They yielded the following data:

  • 2544 femicides
  • 1 femicide every 31 hours
  • In 85% of the cases, the femicide belonged to the victim’s inner circle.
  • 63% of the cases took place in the victims’ home.

We confirm that unity in the streets is the way to confront the adjustment and the right. That they are not going to take our rights away without us putting up a fight. That is why we have to continue in the streets, against all types of violence against us, against the adjustment of the national and provincial governments to the service of the IMF, against the Basic Law and in defense of all our rights.

Justice for Myrna!
