Millionaire fines and closure for a polluting laundry in Centenario

After repeated complaints from neighbors, million-dollar fines and municipal warnings, An industrial laundry in Centenario was closed for contaminating the irrigation system. This Friday,The misdemeanor judge ordered the closure of the company that carried out its work in the rural sector of the city.

The closure order was issued by the Centenario Misdemeanor Judge, Carolina Vidal. After repeated complaints from neighbors and by repeated non-compliance despite warnings of municipal inspectors The company continued to discharge effluents into the local irrigation system, according to the municipality.

In the months of April and May, two contravention acts were issued to the company, imposing a “remediation” period that was not met.. The same thing happened with two fines, of eight million pesos each, which have not been paid.

From the direction of Environmental Inspection and Control, headed by Gloria Espinoza, They issued a certificate of notification where “they requested documentation and information about generationn, treatment and final disposal of special waste, authorization of Water Resources for collecting groundwater used for laundry, among other specificities.

After months of waiting, added to the silence of the company, the municipality decided to proceed with the closure. According to reports, the effluents were discharged into the city’s irrigation system.

«We ask that the closure be evaluated, due to the disregard of our order and to be able to enter and see the state of the facilities, since they never allowed us to enter,” said Espinoza.
