With the aim of promoting greater university links between Chile and Italy and bringing closer the relationship between both countries in the field of agriculture and renewable energy, the Italian Ambassador to Chile, Valeria Biagiotti, visited the Maule Region.

During the event, the diplomat participated in a series of activities at the University of Talca, where she emphasized the importance of promoting collaboration between the Maulina study house and Italian universities.

“We want to take advantage of links between universities to discuss issues associated with renewable energies, which are of great interest to our nation and to the European Union,” explained the ambassador.

For his part, the rector of UTalca, Carlos Torres Fuchslocher, highlighted that there is interest in the aforementioned country in the area of energy efficiency and green hydrogen. “Chile is going to play an important role in the future of European mobility, this through the production and dispatch of green hydrogen to Europe, in this sense these approaches are very important,” he explained.

The ambassador met with researchers from the Intelligent Networks Laboratory of the university’s Faculty of Engineering where she learned about the university’s cutting-edge equipment for the generation of batteries that transform hydrogen into electricity to power vehicles.

On the other hand, the emissary also had a meeting with researchers from the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences, in which case, Rector Torres highlighted that there is an important commercial relationship with Italy in the area. “The Italian industry is characterized by developing technological solutions for the agribusiness that is present in Chile, both in companies and technical services, which is an example and also nourishes ideas and opportunities for the development of this sector in our country.”

University exchange

The rector highlighted that 130 students have moved to Italian universities, and in turn, academics have developed relationships in research and postgraduate studies in that country. “The ambassador’s visit strengthens this bond that already has a tradition with our university and we hope that this will bear other fruits.”

“We know that several students from here have gone to Italy and now we are going to discuss how to strengthen this cooperation even more, since the exchange is a very important experience in the life of a student,” said Biagiotti.

Women leaders

Valeria Biagiotti is the first female ambassador to Chile since 1864, a milestone that transforms her into a reference in gender matters. “I feel another responsibility to transmit this message, which is important, I think I can be an example and motivation for those who listen to me,” she expressed after the conference to women leaders that she held at the university.

In the activity she referred to the role and female leadership in international relations. “It is inspiring for our officials, academics and students, who can see these experiences as a path for future development,” added Rector Torres.

“We don’t have to think that there are limitations for women, we have to follow our ideals. Furthermore, another message is that we have to stop imagining a harsh and incomprehensible idea of female leadership, there are other ways to lead,” the ambassador emphasized.

Biagiotti stressed that addressing these issues in all contexts is essential, “because we still have to improve, so this is a way to exchange experiences and create a network of solidarity between women from different disciplines and contexts to see how we can work together,” she concluded. .
