Mindeporte visited sports venues in Manizales for the National Youth Games

  • The Minister of Sports, Luz Cristina López Trejosinspected the sports infrastructure of the coffee region for the 2024 National Youth Games.
  • Accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Sports, she visited Manizales: the skatedrome, the BMX track, the aquatic complex and the Coliseum Mayor.

In order to verify the status of the sports venues for the National Youth Games, the Minister of Sports, Luz Cristina López, took a tour of the facilities of the Bosque Popular el Prado and the Coliseo Mayor Jorge Arango Uribe.

“In general terms, I would say that Manizales is very advanced in complying with the sports infrastructure for the National Youth Games. We look forward to the next committee on July 12 in our city; The Secretaries of Sports, mayors and governors of the entire region will be there to establish the real progress of the work and the definitive scope with a view to carrying out the competitions,” commented the Secretary of Sports, Diego Fernando Espinosa Benjumea.

The scenarios that were visited were:

  • Patinodrome: is in the process of liquidation proceedings. There are pending issues regarding finishes and electricity.
  • BMX track: it was possible to supervise the construction and adaptation of a slab for the location of portable stands for 250 spectators.
  • Aquatic Complex: the process is already closed. No interventions will be made.
  • Jorge Arango Uribe Mayor Coliseum: it has a progress of 72.5%. A possible addition for interior finishes and facade is being analyzed.

The National Youth Games are planned to be held in parallel with conventional and Paralympic athletes, so accessibility to all sporting venues must be ensured.
