The calm sea yesterday awaited the arrival at the Port of Havana of the patrol ship HMCS Margaret Brooke, belonging to the Royal Canadian Navy.

“It is a great privilege for us to continue this tradition of our country’s naval visits to Cuba, and we are very grateful for the warm welcome to the crew,” said Canada’s ambassador to the Island, Geoff Gartshore.

At Pier 2, in addition to the diplomatic authority, Captain Aldo Perera Estévez, head of Naval Engineering of the Revolutionary Navy, led the reception ceremony. Meanwhile, the frigate captain and commander of the ship, Nicole Robichaud, responded to the greeting.

The presence of the vessel in the capital of the Greater Antilles is a sign of the quality of the bilateral cooperation ties, on the 50th anniversary of its establishment, and in the eight decades of uninterrupted contacts at the diplomatic level, Gartshore highlighted.

At the end of a nine-week itinerary through several Caribbean nations, the stay in Cuba will contribute to the security of the geographical region, “because we are together in the fight against international crime, drugs,” he emphasized.
