The Catholic University of Salta manages to get involved in the most vulnerable sectors of society to develop projects that promote equal opportunities and social progress. On this occasion, the University Institute of Rehabilitation (IUR) of UCASAL leads a comprehensive, unparalleled program in the Ava Guaraní community, within the San Francisco Mission, in Pichanal, which is made up of approximately 15,000 inhabitants.

The IUR is a cutting-edge technological initiative launched by the University, oriented towards human well-being through research, development and innovation. Under the direction of Dr. Fernando Gallo Cornejo, the Institute contemplates a multiplicity of careers involved within the academic offering of the University, among which the following stand out: Psychology, Psychopedagogy, Social Work, Music, Occupational Therapy, Physical Education, Psychomotricity, Industrial Design, Telecommunications Engineering and Kinesiology.

Among the programs on which the UCASAL Institute focuses, Lic. Sergio Dilorenzo, professor of Physical Education at UCASAL, addresses some of the main objectives in relation to this field.

On the one hand, physical education covers the training, educational and health spectrum, and on the other, the recreational and sports spectrum. “The systematic practice of the body and physical activity aimed at improving the quality of life is very important,” reflects the graduate regarding the first segment.

In addition, Dilorenzo considers practicing sports in the San Francisco Mission as a fundamental element to raise self-esteem and address personal challenges, promoting through physical activity.

“The UCASAL University School of Physical Education, having the human resources it has, will be able to help the community,” says the teacher, who along with other peers heads the comprehensive project in Misión San Francisco.

Framing the initiative within practice, the Institute’s professionals will make the relevant visits throughout a year to achieve an optimal diagnosis and thus build the strengthening of the Pichanalense people.
