Gonzalo Castillo, who had asked for a vacation a few days ago, was having some mate at his house. His work was essential to organize the operation, because although, as he himself points out, everyone worked together, his contribution was to guide the other firefighters through the facilities that were burning.

At the beginning of the year 2000 I was trekking: “I went up to Nido de Cóndores; what the people of the Aconcagua Rescue Patrol did always caught my attention.”

“Later I had the idea of ​​doing some social work, and that’s how I began to prepare to be a firefighter. I thought that this is a seismic zone and we have to prepare,” he said.

Castillo graduated as a firefighter in 2013, and in 2018 he graduated as a vehicle rescuer and in collapsed structures at the National Fire Academy of the Argentine Republic.

Today he works for the Mendoza Federation and is the reference for the vehicle rescue area in Mendoza.
