On June 15,The governor of Chocó, Nubia Carolina Córdoba issued a message in which she detailed the situation that the department presents in the face of the rainsthat have occurred and the emergencies that the heavy rainfall has caused.

“The rainy season, even before the official start of the La Niña phenomenon, is already wreaking havoc on our department.We have cause overflow in Nuquí and Istmina,” he said.

He even indicated thatSince May, they have presented to Risk Management a preparation plan for the La Niña phenomenon.Therefore, the director of the entity, Carlos Carrillo, was invited.

“This rainy season can be really disastrous for Chocóand joint action at all levels of response is the only possible way to address it with the dimensions that are anticipated,” said Córdoba.

For his part, Carlos Carillo indicated that: “We will leave for Quibdó and we will accompany the governor along with the mayors of several municipalities in the departmental risk council.At this moment the situation in Chocó is worrying. Nearly 40 events have affected 17 municipalities and this worries us“.

Besides,highlighted that they planned to visit the municipalities of Nuquí, Juradóand Bahía Solano, however,Since they cannot get transportation for next Friday, June 21, they will postpone the visit.

Regarding the articulated work that has been implemented with the communities to deliver aid, he stated that: “We are working hard to expedite the delivery of humanitarian assistance that must arrive in the coming days to the municipalities of Alto, Medio and Bajo Buaudóas well as the municipality of Lloró”.
