Yopal Mayor’s Office decorated the President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Judge Gerson Chaverra

Mayor Marco Tulio Ruíz Riaño, presented the “Juan Nepomuceno Moreno” Order of Merit decoration, the highest recognition granted by the Municipal Mayor’s Office of Yopal, to the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, the Honorable Judge Gerson Chaverra Castro, for his great work, tenacity, dedication in the conservation and maintenance of justice in our country.

In his speech, the mayor highlighted the importance of the work carried out by the Magistrate from the Supreme Court of Justice, by ensuring the protection and guarantee of the rights and freedoms of Colombian citizens and especially those of the municipality of Yopal.

Meanwhile, the Chief Legal Advisor of the mayor’s office, Edgar Iván Paerez, who was delegated by the municipal president to grant the words of recognition to the Magistrate, expressed that, “this not only highlights his impeccable work, but also his tenacity, self-discipline, perseverance, resilience and humility, which have characterized him both personally and professionally, dispensing justice for more than three decades throughout the country, establishing jurisprudential precedents that, without a doubt, have framed the application of justice in our territory, thus contributing to the maintenance and conservation of justice and legal order.

It is important to highlight that Judge Chaverra Castro is a lawyer from the Autonomous University of Colombia, a master’s degree in Criminal and Criminological Sciences from the Externado University of Colombia and a specialist in Criminal Law and Criminology from the University of Medellín, and Criminal Procedural Law, Constitutional Law and Administrative Law from the Universidad del Rosario.

He has more than 25 years of experience in the judicial branch, 12 of them as a judicial servant in different towns in the department of Chocó, such as Riosucio, Tadó, Quibdó, Bahía Solano and Istmina, in which he served as Promiscuous Municipal Judge, Judge Municipal Criminal, Promiscuous Circuit Judge, Circuit Criminal Judge and Specialized Circuit Criminal Judge; He also served from 2004 to 2007 as a Criminal Judge of the Bogotá Circuit, where he became a Judge by merit of the Single Chamber of the Superior Court of Quibdó and, later, of the Superior Court of Bogotá, of which he was president.
