Julio César Falcioni stopped being Banfield’s coach after a meeting he held with the club’s main leaders, completing his fifth cycle at the club, which he declared champion in 2009, something that established him as one of the main idols of the institution in its history.

“Julio César Falcioni’s coach will no longer be the coach of the professional team, which he led in his fifth cycle at the club from May 2023 until the last game against Independiente. After a meeting held yesterday between the leadership and the coach, this decision was reached by common agreement, which was made at the beginning of the recess and 34 days after the restart of the competition,” they said, in a statement, from the entity, focusing on what was the recent itinerary and the possibility of taking advantage of the break for the Copa América to change the scene.

“As always, we thank Julio for his unalterable willingness to collaborate with our Institution,” they noted in the message, in which they praised the vital work of the protagonist as driver of the Albiverde main team.

Furthermore, the entity clarified that they have already started to look for the future coach, although there are still no names in the game, with the expectation of adding him in the coming weeks, prior to the resumption of the grid in the Professional League.

“Just from this moment, the Board of Directors is dedicated to searching for options for leading the first team with the idea of being able to announce the new coaching staff in the coming days,” they explained.

Falcioni’s fifth cycle at Banfield began in May of last year, when he replaced Javier Sanguinetti, since a few months earlier he had rejected a proposal from the then president of Independiente, Fabián Doman, to be manager of the Avellaneda entity.

In his first full tournament with the Drill in this round, he led the team to the quarterfinals of the 2023 League Cup (lost on penalties against Godoy Cruz), but this year the results were not satisfactory, given that, for case, in the current championship they added only four points in the first five dates of the contest, the result of a victory against Newell’s, a draw with Huracán and three defeats against Unión, Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata and Rojo himself, in what was precisely the last chapter, a few days ago.

In these 13 months, in that sense, they totaled 16 wins, 15 draws and 17 losses, a record that did not allow the team to take off in the fight for permanence, and today, then, it is the main concern of the fans.
