Taking into account that ten municipalities of the Tolima have developed or will develop folkloric festivities in the remainder of the month of June, the Women’s Network of the department warned that this season there could be an increase in cases of gender violence.

Estella Gordillo, president of the organization, explained that excessive alcohol consumption during celebrations usually triggers situations of intolerance or aggression, especially against women.

“These parties are hard for the trials of women who violate them, who beat them, who mistreat them, all of this because of liquor. For example, just now at an event I saw a man attacking two women, drunk,” the spokesperson said.

Together with the authorities of the department, the group has promoted some campaigns and measures that aim to promote the reporting of acts of violence. The intention is for people to report the situations of which they are victims or, where possible, to report preventively.

“It is for women to call and avoid the violence that affects us. Between Government and the Mayor’s Office They have launched programs to defend women, to guide them, to help them, to collaborate with them. The violence is strong, but the hope is to prevent it,” Gordillo added.

The leader of the Women’s Network of Ibagué and Tolima reminded the community that telephone lines 123 and 155 are enabledto receive complaints of this type. In addition, the Purple Patrol of the National Police is permanently in operation.
