Aguas del Valle works to restore water supply in La Serena and Coquimbo

Aguas del Valle provided an update on the service situation in La Serena and Coquimbo, affected by the high turbidity of the Elqui River.

“Flow conditions have improved, allowing us to resume normal production of drinking water. Normalizing the service is a gradual process: first we must recover the levels of the ponds and then replenish the network,” explained Juan Pablo Jacob, zonal deputy manager.

If conditions remain stable and no new problems arise, the filling of the network will begin during the afternoon and will continue throughout the night.

“It is crucial to stabilize the system. Therefore, we ask our customers who have not suffered supply outages to make rational use of water and postpone tasks such as washing clothes or cars,” added Jacob.

The executive also pointed out that, when the service resumes, there could be temporary changes in the color of the water due to the dragging of sediments in the network, so they recommend letting the water run for a few minutes so that it normalizes.

Aguas del Valle expressed its regret for the effects of this major incident on the community and recalled that it has put 49 alternative supply ponds into operation, which will remain active until the emergency is overcome. In addition, another 20 ponds will be added during the day to ensure the necessary coverage.
