This weekend, the heavy rains that have been recorded in Valledupar caused large volumes of water, mainly in the area of the northern townships, where Guacoche and Guacochito were affected, with flooding of most of the houses in each town.

Inhabitants of these towns indicated that the water entered their houses in the early hours of Saturday morning and reached high levels.

“One of the problems here is that the farmers have diverted or blocked the drains and streams in the pastures, so the water has nowhere to go. In previous years that did not happen because all the rainwater was looking for its channel and It used to go up to the Cesar River, but now there are houses where the water gets in and reaches up to people’s waists,” said Jorge Luis Mindiola, a resident of Guacochita.

In this way, many families were affected by the deterioration of their belongings.

Due to this situation, the municipal administration, the Government Secretariat, in coordination with volunteers from the Red Cross, Civil Defense, Police and National Army, attended to the affected areas, as well as in Las Raíces, Los Corazones, Villa Germania and the Sabanitas village. , in order to evaluate and mitigate the damage caused.

Likewise, they reported that critical points were identified as streams that require intervention.

They are also carrying out cleaning and reinforcement actions in channels, as well as the construction of containment barriers at strategic points, all with the aim of minimizing the risk of future disasters.

RECOMMENDATIONS

From the Cesar Office of Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation, they provided recommendations to citizens regarding the consequences that the La Niña phenomenon may bring, such as falling trees, roofs, structures and other associated dangers.
