The weekend massacres leave six dead

Within a few hours of each other, on the night of Friday, June 14, two massacres were reported in the southwestern part of the country. In the municipalities of Miranda, northern Cauca and its neighboring Florida, southern Valle del Cauca, six people were murdered.

The Florida massacre occurred in the Nuevo Horizonte neighborhood. The victims were three men, who were attacked from a van on public roads. At this time, the identity of the victims is unknown.

The other massacre, which occurred on Friday night, was perpetrated by armed men who shot without saying a word against Jhonny Gómez González, Jhon Álvaro Sánchez and a young man who had recently arrived in Miranda, who, according to the community, were street dwellers.

According to information from the authorities, a camper-type vehicle and a motorcycle fled from the crime scene.

According to the Institute of Development and Peace Studies, Indepaz, 29 massacres have occurred in Colombia so far in 2024.

These acts of violence were recorded after the harassment of a police station in Cajibío and the armed attack on the municipality of Jamundí. For this reason, the authorities presume that the attackers were members of the FARC dissidents.
